A team of medical device developers have come together to create a new respirator design to address the shortage of PPE in hospitals. This design is based on Origami – it does not require any sewing or other special equipment – just scissors, a zip tie, and an elastic band. Sterilization wrap (widely available in hospitals and online) is the recommended material choice, since it is rated for 95% Viral Filtration Efficiency (VFE). Instructional videos, template files, and other reference materials can be found at the link below. This open-source collaboration is the output of many passionate organizations and individuals including Archimedic, NextFab, University of Pennsylvania, Jonathan Kiel, Mohit Prajapati, Shu Yang, Matthew Bell, and Eric Sugalski.
